Check out these fellas tussling and bellowing near San Simeon. (And these are the juveniles!)
For Rachel, these were some of the strangest and most unthinking creatures she’s seen. As they flopped and thundered their way across the beach, the males had zero awareness of the newborns they trampled. The corpses of many dead babies littered the area as a sad testament to the males’ callousness.
The picture below shows the size difference between the male (on the right) and the females and babies (on the left).
As clarification, the seals in this photo are all living.
But there were still lots of cute newborn babies safe with their mamas.
