Olympic National Park – Hurricane Ridge

The vista of the Olympic Mountains from Hurricane Ridge.

Olympic National Park is a million acres, big enough to encompass several distinct ecosystems: Pacific coastlines, temperate rainforests, and the glaciated mountains of the Olympic Range.

Within the park, Hurricane Ridge stands a mile high, stark against its sea-level surroundings. From its top the Olympic Range filled two horizons, and the stiff wintry breeze reminded us that elevation means cold, even in June.

But the deer and marmots didn’t seem to mind.

This furry fella seems like a cross between a groundhog and bigfoot.
